Look Up

Today I was mowing the lawn and kept seeing this huge shadow sweep across the grass.

Every time it happened, I’d look up expecting to see a hawk or an eagle.

Instead, it was a tiny finch.

It made me wonder how often we do the same thing with our lives.

Sometimes the thing casting the biggest shadow over us isn’t actually as big as it feels.

Maybe it’s an old comment.

Maybe it’s a childhood belief.

Maybe it’s a mistake we made years ago.

The shadow grows larger than the thing itself.

And before we know it, we’ve spent years organizing our lives around a bird that was never as big as we imagined.

Healing isn’t pretending the bird doesn’t exist.

It’s looking up.
